AutoX is a leading South African manufacturer and distributor of automotive lead-acid batteries, supplying the local replacement and aftermarket as well as select African and European markets. Its stable includes the premium Willard and SABAT brands, house brands Grand Prix and Hi Fase, and the official South African distribution of VARTA. From its Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) manufacturing base and Johannesburg head office, AutoX serves circa 4,000 delivery points through a national footprint spanning Cape Town, Pinetown, Bloemfontein, Gqeberha and East London, plus a branch in Namibia.
The business is vertically integrated, with subsidiary LeadX (acquired from Zimco Group in 2023), South Africa’s largest lead-recycling smelter, securing lead supply, while subsidiary PlasX manufactures its plastic casings.
